5 Ways How To Find Peace When You’re Being Emotional

Some people are more emotional than others. But being emotional is not a bad thing if you know how to manage your emotions and use them in your advantage.

We all feel emotional at some point. Some of us are able to push through while others, on the other side of the spectrum, end up taking medicines.

But being emotional is not a challenge you need to push through, nor something you need to protect yourself from. It’s a period when you can learn the most and grow the most.

To be able to use emotions for growth you need to be able to find peace in midst of feeling emotional. But it takes a great mastery of oneself to find peace in such times.

We can’t control the chaos of emotions. But finding peace is not getting rid of the chaos. Real peace can be found at the eye of the storm.

We will share 5 ways you can find peace when you feel emotional so you can use your emotions to learn really powerful truths about your self and grow.

5 Ways How To Find Peace When You Feel Emotional:

1. Accept that you are just a human like everyone else.

See yourself as who you really are, a human being just like anybody else. You have your own problems and struggles, just like everyone else.

Stop comparing yourself to others because you’re neither above nor below them. We have the same number of hours in a day, we all have to get up every morning and find meaning in life. Sometimes it’s easy, sometimes it’s hard, but we all fight a hard battle.

By seeing yourself as a normal and ordinary human being, your are giving yourself permission to feel. By knowing others feel emotional too, you are not going to feel alone with your emotions. By accepting yourself as just a human, you stop doubting yourself.

And this realization gives us peace because we realize it’s just who we are, there’s nothing wrong with us.

Accepting that you’re ordinary human makes you feel less alone and more at peace.

2. Acknowledge your discomfort.

Don’t resist any uncomfortable feelings when they come. Instead, acknowledge their presence and embrace them.

If you feel like crying, then cry. It’s a good way of releasing the tensions from your body.

Placing one hand on your chest and the other on your belly, while breathing deeply, protects you from getting overwhelmed by these emotions.

By acknowledging your discomfort fully, it will stop being so discomfortable. you’ll realize it was your resistance of your emotions that gave you discomfort and your emotions per se.

This will give you presence within your emotions and peace feeling them.

3. Stay present with your emotions.

When we feel emotional we tend to look for ways how we can escape from the present moment and from feeling.

We turn the TV, we watch something, we drink, we play something, we use our phone. Whatever we can to avoid feeling the emotions we feel.

But these avoidance of feeling your emotions makes your emotions much more scary and intense than they really are.

They just want you to feel them and they’ll go away. They are like messengers who are really persistent to tell you a message. So let them. Be present with them. Feel them.

Feel them fully. Feel the discomfort they make, where they make it. Try to observe them and you can even give them a color. Stay with them, accept them unconditionally.

4. Express your emotions.

There are many ways you can express your emotions. You can sing, dance, exercise, journal, write, or even paint.

Journaling is one way of digging deeper into your inner self. Through it, you’ll be able to be honest with your emotions and express them without any filter.

It’s one of the best ways of releasing and understanding the accumulated emotions inside you.

Through writing, you’re able to purge out all the self defeating thoughts you may have, your fears, pains, doubts.

Writing in your journal even for 10 to 15 minutes a day enables you to clear your mind of its clutter.

Once your mind is cleared, it’s much easier to feel your emotions and listen to what they have to say.

5. Stop trying to control.

The greatest irony and absurdity we tend to make is try to control our emotions. We mistake controlling our actions with controlling our emotions.

You can control your actions, but you cannot control an emotion. By nature an emotion is chaotic, it doesn’t follow a scheme or a defined behavior, it’s free and unique.

All we do by trying to control our emotions is suppressing them deep within our selves. These emotions are still there, pending for us to feel them.

And as much as we do this the more we fill ourselves up with unfelt emotions until one day we have mental breakdown.

So when you are feeling emotional, stop trying desperately to control everything. just let go and embrace the way you feel. Embrace the storm of emotions and do not resist.

As you do this you will realize that your emotions cannot hurt you if you do not resist them. You will pass through the storm and you’ll get right to the center, to the eye of the storm.

And there, in the midst of your emotions, in the eye of the storm you will find the greatest peace you did not know existed within you.
