3 Reasons Why Other People’s Opinions Should Not Matter To You At All

“Personal opinions rarely mirror the absolute truth yet always reflect the absolution of personal ignorance.” — Jason Versey

There is a saying going something like this. When you are 20 you care about what other people think of you.

When you are 40 you realize you shouldn’t care about what others think about you and do what you want to do.

When you are 60 you realize nobody really thought that much about you and you were free all along.

But imagine if you realized this when you were 20, how differently would you have lived, what things you did just for approval?

There are 3 facts that I will tell you in this article that will give you no valid reason to care about other people’s opinions of you.

3 Reasons You Shouldn’t Care About Other People’s Opinions Of You:

1. Nobody can possibly know you as much as you know yourself.

If you go out and look at other people you have opinions about them. You judge some people as good, some as bad, some as likable, some as not, some even annoy you.

And you judge them without even knowing any of them. In fact, you judge them without even exchanging one word. Most people do this.

But all of these judgments have nothing to do with them and everything to do with you. These judgments are your projections based on your own assumptions.

You were wrong about someone, were you not? You though one thing, and once you got to know them better they turned out to actually be a really good person.

Nobody can know you as much as you know yourself. You are with yourself wherever you go and whatever you do. Therefore, other people’s opinions are not based on reality.

2. Everyone mostly cares about what other people think of them.

Just as you care what other people think of you, guess what? Everyone else cares about what everyone else thinks of them.

They try to appeal to the majority, most of their choices and decisions are based on what would other people think of them.

So no matter what you do that you want to do, others will care more about how they appear rather than what you did.

If you want to approach someone in the park and start a conversation this person would not care that you approached them, they will mostly care about how they appear.

Everyone wants to be liked and it’s good to be liked. But don’t let that stop you from doing what your heart wants you to do, or from being your real authentic self.

3. You will not regret an opinion but not doing what you wanted.

So, others can’t really know you and they will still have an opinion about you. It’s their complete right to have an opinion.

Most people care mostly about themselves, and if what they think about you stops you from being your real self than you are avoiding a lie.

This being said, even if everyone followed you and judged your every move, you would still not regret their opinions.

You will regret the things you didn’t do because you were a slave to other people’s opinions. That’s going to outweigh every judgment others have about you.

Carrying about what others think of you is just a waste of time. It’s an illusionary prison that you don’t need to be in, one you can escape by simply being yourself unconditionally.
