Maureen Scanlon is one of the coaches we found and we did a little interview with her. She impressed us with her innovative ways of helping her clients fully accept themselves. Here is what she said.
Name: Maureen Scanlon
Pillar: The Spirit
Who is this coach for: Anyone who is willing to become who they really are and learn to love themselves.
How they can help: She helps you to find acceptance and validation for who you really are in an innovative and unique way, customized to each individual.
I’ve really enjoyed the aspects of the pandemic that shifted our focus to the things we value most: our health and our families.
I was fortunate enough to have my grandchildren staying with me and we had a lot of fun using our imaginations and spending quality time together.
The pandemic was a great way for people to evaluate their lives. I drew in quite a bit of new clientele due to this.
It really helped me with patience. I learned more mindfulness and living in the moment.
Pre pandemic I was hesitant about using technology to connect, I had always felt I needed to be in the presence of others to feel connected.
I was so wrong!
I have learned to embrace the convenience and blessings of video and social media.
I have made genuine, ongoing, friendships with others I’ve never met face to face.
I always say I’ve been life coaching before life coaching was a thing.
I started the business aspect of coaching 4 years ago which evolved to writing 2 books and speaking.
Learning to see myself as worthy and lovable was my biggest challenge.
From my upbringing to dysfunctional and abusive relationships, I realized it was my choosing these experiences that had to change. I had to finally understand the “why” and then accept the lesson.
Every client is unique and so is my approach to helping them.
I ask clients to do “out of the box” methods such as theme songs and happy altars as well as to try uncomfortable things.
I once asked a client to yell out of her car window during a session in the parking lot of her employment, “I am amazing”. She laughed and felt really good.
As described in a Google review of my business, a client said, “It’s like talking to your mom, or that one cool aunt always know just what to say”.
I feel that my genuine desire to build the trust and relationship with clients is so crucial to the success.
My clients will get a deeper understanding of themselves, learn acceptance, self love, and build a confidence they didn’t have previously.
They will be empowered to make choices that are best for themselves, letting go of others’ expectations or needing validation from others as well as learning how to cope with ongoing life struggles in the future.
I have quite a few tools that help my clients.
I use a thought record process, a life wheel, and a false belief exercise that are game changers!
I also provide weekly emails about success and goals!
My message is always that we all want the same thing: acceptance and validation.
Loving ourselves must be our dominant thought, for we can’t love and help others until we love ourselves fully.
The greatest lesson for me, comes from a quote I recently found, author unknown “Do not try to mend bonds you didn’t break”.
I had always been a people pleaser and tried so hard to serve others even when I received nothing in return, thinking it was my fault and that I had not done enough to receive love.
If I can leave this with one thought: If it feels good do it, if not, you have a choice to disengage and focus on only that which feels better.
Finally, have mercy, grace, and patience with yourself, you are a human having human experiences, remember it is all about whether you are learning a lesson or teaching one.
If you want to dive deeper into her work you can check this video. She shares a little bit about her book that has one of the funniest titles I have ever heard, you can get on Amazon.
Everything else you can find on her website https://lifecoachmaureen.com/ and if you want to ask her a burning question the best way is to schedule a FREE clarity call here. It was a pleasure interviewing this warm human being.
